Pack Meeting

As I am typing this, MTCS students are enjoying their first snow day of the year! Many brave souls ventured the winter weather to attend last night's pack meeting. Thank you for everyone that brought something to eat--- it was all great! The decorations were beautiful and the scouts would like to thank the East Main church of Christ and the Dunkleys for allowing us to use their facilities. It was certainly exciting when Santa (and his festive helpers) was in attendance!!

We had a great field trip yesterday to the treatment plant in Murfreesboro. From all reports, the kids were attentive and had a great tour. Thank you Mr. Curtis for arranging this, and thank you to the plant employees for providing the tour!
How are your popcorn sales going? Please see your email for important updates from Mr. Reyes.

Upcoming events!! Get your regattas ready!

Happy New Year to our of our scouts and families!

2008 is sure to be a great year for scouting at MTCS, and one of our most exciting events is the upcoming raingutter regatta. In case you are unfamiliar with this event, Wikipedia describes it as follows:

The raingutter regatta is a Cub Scouting annual event in the United States of America that is the sailboat equivalent of the pinewood derby. The sailboat kit consists of a seven-inch long balsa wood hull, a 6-1/2 inch mast, plastic sail, plastic rudder, and metal keel. Within the basic design rules, Scouts are free to paint and decorate their sailboats as they choose. Modifications for speed include the placement of the keel and rudder and the size, shape and location of the sail. A catamaran is an exceptionally fast design, although this modification is not allowed in all races.

Cub Scouts compete in a raingutter regatta race

Raingutter regatta kit parts: mast, sail, hull, rudder and keel
The boats are raced in a standard
rain gutter that is ten feet long, placed on a table or saw horses, and filled to the top with water. The boats are propelled by blowing on the sail, either directly or through a drinking straw; the boat
cannot be touched with hands or the straw. The first boat to reach the end of
the gutter is the winner. The overall winner is determined by an
elimination
system
.

Sounds like fun to me! Our raingutter Regatta will take place at the next pack meeting on January 17th at 6:30. Prizes to be determined!

As John mentioned in his email, please let him know asap if you are NOT going to be reenlisting in scouts, as it is time to recharter.

Our annual Blue & Gold banquet will take place on Thursday, February 28th-- more information to follow!
